The first thing one would notice in a Kazuki Takamatsu piece is how he brilliantly does it. His process is a mix of traditional and modern techniques. Using a method called depth mapping, the Japanese artist creates hologram-like imagery that explores narratives of death and sensuality.
First, Kazuki draws a rough sketch. He then transforms it into a 3D digital file. Then he prints the final draft onto a customized canvas. The canvas is put onto a panel where he starts to paint over the underlying print with countless transparent layers of gouache and acrylics.
His paintings are dark, surreal, and provocative in their monochromatic simplicity. And yes, they're indeed awesome.
