It's not about being the fastest, it's about being in control.

Some people collect toys, some write poetry, and some choose to hurl themselves down a mountain on two wheels. Jackson Goldstone just won this year’s Downhill Mountain Bike World Championship in Switzerland and here’s the POV of his winning run down the course. That feeling of dropping into a very steep descent with the sound of tires on dirt is pure bliss. Who's hitting the trails this weekend?

A True Competitor

I like just about everything about Alex Eala…

These ladies brought the chill.

The Philippines just bagged the gold medal at the recent International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women's Asia Cup in UAE. Yes, you read that right. Ice hockey. Champions. But let me tell you, what we lacked in natural frozen water, we more than made up for in heart, hustle, and teamwork. The ladies had a perfect tournament in Al Ain with victories against Kyrgyzstan (15-0), UAE (6-1), Malaysia (8-1) and India (4-1) before beating Iran  (4-2) for the gold. They proved that you don't need snow to conquer the ice. You just need talent, determination, and maybe a little bit of that Pinoy magic that allows us to thrive in the most unexpected situations. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to find the nearest halo-halo vendor to celebrate.

Emma Raducanu should be on your radar now.

Tennis is one of my favorite sports, although that doesn't mean that I'm necessarily good at it. For the most part, I enjoy watching people (especially women) play, and the US Open does bring to New York many of the hottest female tennis players to have ever graced the planet. One of them is British teenager Emma Raducanu. The World No. 150, who was born in Canada to a Romanian father and a Chinese mother before the family moved to England when she was two, has been playing the sport since the age of five. She speaks Mandarin, loves F1, and adores Simona Halep. Emma wasn't expected to progress this far, but her fairytale in Flushing Meadows shows no sign of ending. She will face Shelby Rogers in the fourth round after beating Spain's Sara Sorribes Tormo in a one-sided match. But can she really go all the way at the US Open? We'll see.

Where the rubber meets the road

Most sports bore me but I could watch Kate Courtney doing her thing forever…and I even like hearing her talk. In this video, we take a look at her 2021 preseason approach, the dramatic first World Cups, and how Frischi helps her dial in every line ahead of race day.

Grace Under Pressure

There's a long list of things I can't do. One of them is inline skating. When I was twelve or so, I borrowed a Rollerblade from a friend. After way too many falls and injuries, I decided that I'd just have to get through life without it…and I've somehow managed to this day. So I'm at least a bit impressed with the balance and physical skill of anyone who can skate at all. And I'm really impressed with this young lady from Poland who can do this…

Knotted Half-Shirts and Bare Midriffs

I almost never watch the NFL. Once upon a time, I followed the Broncos, largely because my friends did…but other interests took over. Every now and then, I check out a few NFL clips on YouTube, not so much of American football but of the gyrating hips of the league's scantily clad, fresh-faced cheerleaders. The other night, I watched Daughters of the Sexual Revolution: The Untold Story of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. It tells the story of Texas legend Suzanne Mitchell, who created the Cowboys cheer squad, as we know it today. I liked it. It's frisky and informative. I think I have a non-sexual crush on Dana Adam Shapiro. He makes films like I make pancakes.

What the hell is going on in O2's new commercial?

There are adverts so good, you'll never forget them. There are also adverts so bad, you can't help but remember them. Where does this O2 commercial that shows the 2019 England Rugby team as samurai fall then? The soundtrack is great and the visuals are even cooler, but I still find the whole thing... well you just need to watch it, because I'm struggling to come up with the words to describe their new campaign.

Of birds and tats

Larry Bird really doesn't like that mural of him which featured the three-time NBA MVP in a blue Indiana State jersey with tattoos all over his body. "The Great White Hope" is now trying to get it altered, and had his reps reach out to graffiti and street artist Jules Muck to do so. As WISH reports , soon after Jules completed the piece, she was contacted by Larry's lawyer asking her to do something about it, "citing unauthorized promotional value to her brand" and to the six trademarks owned by the 62-year-old former Celtics star. Larry's issue with the artwork was the tarnishing of his image and his 'brand' by affixing tats to his face, arms and neck. Jules meanwhile, said she never intended to offend the basketball legend. The image that inspired the mural came from the November 1977 Sports Illustrated cover story in which Larry was referred to as "College Basketball's Secret Weapon."

How to make golf less boring

Golfboard is an electric vehicle on which the golfer rides in lieu of the traditional golf cart. It features a 4-wheel drive, has a top speed of 12 mph, and draws power from a 25,000-mAh lithium-ion battery, which is good enough to take the golfer around the 18 holes on a single charge. Now this could make golf a little more exciting.

Some skateboarders want their sport out of the Olympics

Last month, Japanese officials have included skateboarding on a list of recommended additions to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. While a number of celebrity skaters – such as Tony Hawk and Shaun White – have campaigned diligently for the inclusion of the sport in the quadrennial competition, it seems that the core of the grassroots have a different view on the matter. There's an online petition asking the IOC not to include skateboarding to the Olympics, and the signature campaign has already completed more than half of its goal. The petition says: "With due respect for Olympic Athletes, we the undersigned skateboarders and advocates strongly request that the IOC NOT RECOGNIZE SKATEBOARDING AS AN OLYMPIC SPORT, or use skateboarding to market the Olympics. Further, we ask that the IOC NOT recognize any individuals or groups claiming to be the IOC recognized governing body of skateboarding or provide funding to them. Skateboarding is not a "sport" and we do not wa...

Someone has some serious explaining to do

Kayla Richardson and Eric Cray both won gold on Tuesday at the 28th Southeast Asian Games but the Philippine flags on their vests were upside down. The inverted flag, with the red rather than blue side on top, means that the country is officially at war. [Photo credit: Yahoo! Sports ]
