Hattie Newman's delightful paper art

I recently discovered the work of Hattie Newman on tumblr and was immediately attracted to her intricate paper-cut designs. The British designer and image maker creates fascinating little cities entirely from paper that carry a sense of wonder and charm.

Hattie's originally from Devon, but now lives and works in London after studying illustration in Bristol. She enjoys painting too, but she thinks she haven't completely mastered the skill of it yet. While many of Hattie's creations may be miniatures, she has earned an impressive client base including Cadbury, Sony, Louis Vuitton, Honda, GAP, and The Guardian.

Enigmatic Shapes and Psychedelic Patterns

To say that I love Sanagi 's work is an understatement. Looking at her art feels sort of therapeutic, and I find her drawings refreshingly intricate. They're trippy, psychedelic, and resemble something that you might see under a microscope. Not much is Googleable about Sanagi, but that's fine. There aren't many artists these days that still pull off the whole mysterious vibe, so I commend her for that. By the way... they're all hand-drawn with pen and ink.

Kidlat de Guia's woven art

Kidlat De Guia is a photographer and filmmaker who lives and works in the Philippines. He is best known for a body of work that mixes different media as well as traditional with contemporary art-making techniques. The selected images in this post were part of his Woven into Being exhibition, which took place a fews weeks ago at the Galeria Duemila in Pasay City. This series of portraits deals with the idea of blending modern photography with the indigenous art of weaving to produce geometric tapestries with tile-like look. Working with his stock of photos taken during trips and fieldwork around the Philippines, Kidlat creates double vistas through the cutting, splicing, and weaving of the pictures. The results are rivetingly composite and texturized layers of photographic images that disclose an alternate reality.

The Art of Richey Beckett

Richey Beckett is an illustrator who works and lives in South Wales, United Kingdom. Working in record covers, movie posters, and screen printed artwork, Rickey has proven himself as a prolific artist trusted by a number of clients.  Metallica, Grateful Dead, Mastodon, New Republic Magazine, and The British Film Institute are just some of the groups who have utilized his talent. On his bio, it reads: "Beckett uses traditional pen and ink methods to create lavishly detailed pieces of black and white illustration. Taking influence from historic biblical, literary and natural history illustrators and engravers such as Doré, Durer, Audubon and Bewick, along with the decorative flair of Art Nouveau, he creates his own organic world which expands with each new piece."
