From walls to canvases, Hua Tunan has etched his name as one of the most promising young artists around. His paintings are manifestations of his constant experiments, and each piece is simply impressive, dynamic and eye catching. Trained in traditional Chinese art, he skillfully manages to combine centuries-old techniques with the modern styles of Western graffiti.
I first found out about Hua in 2012 when I came across a video of him painting a lion's head mural in Foshan. The first twenty-five seconds show the artist applying a coat of black paint, but my interest wasn't stirred until he started to splash some vibrant colors onto the wall. His process is somehow chaotic, but that what makes his creations exhilarating.
